Who am I?

Anjali is an NYC-based filmmaker and performer earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts at NYU Tisch. US-born and India-raised, she loves contributing a global perspective to her artistic endeavors in film, theatre, and dance. A strong advocate for interdisciplinary art, Anjali aims to make the musical theatre experience more accessible through her films. She's committed to a vision of effortless, normalized representation in cinema, and wants a career in entertainment to able to tell powerful, meaningful stories.

Acting

My roots are in performance! Student and indie shorts that I've acted in have been official selections at various film festivals. I thrive in the realm of drama and romance.
Screen and stage experience have honed me into an open, positive collaborator.

Dancing

With a base training of Bharatanatyam since the age of five, I'm at home on stage. Contemporary, jazz, and musical theatre have enriched the quality of my performance.
Storytelling through choreography enthralls me - I want to make you see the world as I do.

Singing

My musically rich upbringing included understanding theory through piano, guitar, and briefly, violin. I'm a mezzo soprano, but deeply enjoy the lower vocal range!
One day, I hope to write and execute original, meaningful musicals.

Modeling

As a brown artist, I recognize the power of my body as an instrument in the creative workplace.
Being a social media influencer for skincare brand Inde Wild and modeling for independent shoots has taught me more about curating an image of myself that I like as well!

Voice

I’m quick with adapting to different accents, and registers. Having voice acted for student projects as a witch, a baby or even a goat, I find comfort in versatility.

Direction

I focus on stories about our innate fears, everything that makes us human, with a touch of the surreal. I enjoy keeping my inner child alive and well, so that she can speak to my audiences herself.

Assistant Direction

The pressure of a time-sensitive film set turns coal to diamonds. I've found joy in facilitating that process by bringing teams together and optimizing time to kindle directorial vision.

Choreography

Similar to directing actors, working with dancers spurs my creativity to think bigger, faster. My work has been inspired by Indian classical, Golden Age musicals, ballroom, and - of course - Hindi cinema.

Writing

Films, slam and free-verse poetry, songs - words are my weapon of choice. I especially enjoy writing for the boundless potential of animation.

Miscellaneous

I’ve worked in camera and G&E on short films. Being an extra on larger scale sets, and PAing on commercial shoots has significantly informed my professional etiquette.
